For girls it is an easy way to get free meals.

And like other guys have said, this is one of the reasons why I am firmly against being expected to pay for the first date. It sets guys up for being used and the same girl who expects me to pay has likely spread her legs for free for other guys and if she's going to lose interest in me for not paying them she wasn't that interested in me anyways. Not paying is a good way to filter out both the girls who want to use you and the girls who really aren't that attracted to you.

lmao yes. I even tried that once even though I'm a dude. I just didn't make a move and waited for them to ask me out and lo and behold they actually paid. So if a guy can do it a woman can do it 100x more.

I guess I always thought first date was supposed to be coffee as it's something quick just to get an idea of a person.

It hasn't really worked out for me, so maybe I should start doing steak dinners or something.

I may get used for these dinners, but at least I have a better shot at the girl getting to know me.

The issue I see is that date takes at least 1.5-2 hours vs a 15 min coffee date.

So wouldn't the girl be paying with time?
