Holding hands, why does he always switch to intertwining our fingers?

The guy I've been hanging out with, whenever he goes to hold my hand he always switches to the intertwining fingers grip. Why does he do this? It happens especially when we are cuddling

I also personally prefer that because it allows your wrists to stay in a much more natural position.
I wouldn't see it as a bad sign; it's just a preference

I'm guessing it's because holding hands like that feels more intimate. He likes you and wants to feel closer to you.
