Why does my boyfriend rub my hand with his thumb/fingers?

He always does it everytime we hold hands. If we're sitting and watching something while holding hands, he'll reach inside the sleeve of my shirt (I usually wear long sleeved shirts), and rub my wrist with his fingers. He'll play with my hands too and will often stare at our intertwined hands fondly with a tiny smile on his face

He's receiving a lot of affection out of your handholding. don't worry about it. Men's senses are naturally more motion based than women's (even sight, this is fascinating, look it up) so it feels more intense for him when his thumb is moving than when you're holding hands but nothing is moving. If he stares at it with the little smile, don't worry, you've got him hooked for now ;)
