1: personally really likes shoes and tried using his interests as a way to cheer you up, which in return would make him feel better about himself as well (hopefully not just to justify his shoe obsession to himself)
2: is creative and possibly fantasizes about you, and often finds himself thinking of you in different wardrobes/outfits (which is much better than fantasizing about you without an outfit)
