How does one avoid being the fallback guy (or girl)?

I think the part that hurts men the most about, "nice guys finish last" is the finishing last part. The feeling of being her fallback guy after all the jerks fucked and dumped her. So how does one avoid being someones last option?

I'm French and I'll try to be clear but be lenient please ! If you wanna go on with someone you need not to be blinded, and therefore after one, two, three betrayals, she isn't good enough for you (yeah common catching sentence, still true). You can't put to much effort in a relationship if she isn't at all, one day you'll feel like you'r needy, and she just don't care and it won't work anyway :/

Don't be there for her, after she's refused you.

Always use the two chance rule. Ask her out twice. If she rejects you twice, delete her number (If you have it) and never contact her or talk to her again.

Try your luck two times in like 1-2 years timespan and when she rejects you again dont show any interest in her anymore ( I know it sounds muuuuch easier that it is but it is possible, I think I have finaly managed to get to that point)
