What do you think about dating someone without social media?

Okay I’ll be honest before my ex and I broke up in June I would have said yes for sure yeah who cares! But now that I’ve been through a relationship like that it’s just a red flag, why are you so adamantly trying to slip under the radar. You’ll hear the same excuse of “my REAL friends will still call/text me”, uh huh, which is respectable but still a piss poor excuse considering you could easily put up a facade. I’m cautious about it, I have friends who intermittently turn off their FB and all the power to them, but I’m still cautious.

As far as social media goes, at what point are you not cautious? Like if a guy just has a Facebook but never uses it than that's cool or do you look for activity levels as well?

Just have one and have your friends on it. I rarely, if ever, post. You may get a post every two-three months but I’m still on it. I like and comment, and use messenger, I expect the same. Show me you have a friend group

My boyfriend isn't really on social media, which is fine. It doesn't affect our relationship in any way. The only thing that would annoy me is if they didn't have any free messaging app. Text messages are expensive, so I'd rather text through a social media app like WhatsApp.

It is curious that some girls think a guy has an obligation to be on some social media. Apparently, they cannot consider dating without texting/messaging constantly. As a means of communications, texting is horribly inefficient and it is a lazy way to talk. If you are not willing to do the "work" involved in picking up the phone and actually talking, then you are going to fail every time when your relationship gets challenged and you need to work on it.

This idea of being " always connected " is wild to me. I personally find direct messaging great for planning or short notices, it seems it has become almost an obligation in dating these days. Seems like everything is based around instant satisfaction but does that decrease the value of the time when two people that are dating are face to face?

The problem of messaging is the much greater possibility of being misunderstood. It is a slow and inefficient means of communicating.

Exactly. Texting is a big fail to me. I won't be with anyone that can't get their life together enough to just pick up a phone and talk to me.

Of course. The girl I am seeing now isn't on social media nor are most people I know. A lot of people I know don't even have the internet. People are not on social media tend to be the most productive and the most out-going. At least you can do things with them without them staring at their cellphone all night.

I haven't posted on my Facebook since I was 14, posted once on Twitter, & I've never had an Instagram or SnapChat.

It would be a bit hypocritical if I wouldn't date them over that. I would rather date someone who doesn't use social media then someone oversaturated in social media.

Definitely. I don't have social media. I think not having social media keeps people out of your business & less men trying to talk to her, but in reality if she going to cheat then she's going to cheat with or without social media. So I would say go for it

personally i dont use social media myself. I dont have facebook, or twitter and my current instagram is deactivated. I like not being on the grid. And id like it if my boyfriend isn't either. When you dont use social media you have so much more time for more important things. But thats just a personal choice.

Some people just aren't into it. I know a girl u can't text more than once per day. Her FB profile is basically blank. Nothing posted in a year. But she's a lot of fun in real life. Almost everyone likes her.

I think it's a good sign when someone isn't on social media. I think social media has caused a degeneration of human interaction and relationships.

I agree. I see the positives of social media as well, but definitely seems like social media helps or may be the biggest contributor to people being glued to their phones.
