The matter of great sorrow is, I am done with root-canals and other things. No more follow-ups needed. That means I'm not gonna see him again.

He most likely is not legally allowed to see a patient. Since states regulate these things, he really can't ask you out. He'd have to wait for the time limit to run out and not see you as a patient.
