They match sometimes for self affirmation. Either the #2 or #3 reason according to stats for women to date online is they feel bored or they are looking for positive feedback and attention from others. So they may not match due to interest but they want the attention from you. They reply in short answers because that’s the minimal effort it takes to keep you on the hook. The moment you realize this and say less and less frequently you will either notice them pick it up more on their end so they don’t lose you or ignore you all together.
