Good question. I've called my exes "hun" for which is obviously short for "honey." And I had a long term relationship with a girl that always called me "babe." I don't think I could've ever dated anybody else that called me babe though because if you knew the girl that called me that, it went with her personality. So think about what works for both your personality and what will resonate with him as a term of endearment. As your relationship develops, you'll figure out what the right word/term is.

+1 yEither one is fine for me. I wouldn't stress figuring out what to call him yet. I think some people, myself included, don't like babe or baby because it's so generic. Not bad but generic.
The most endearing names come to you naturally as you get to know the person better.
Ex. A girlfriend of mine had lovely curly fluffy hair. When we got close enough it became natural for me to call her my "fluffhead."10 Reply
+1 yAt first I thought it was weird, til I got a boyfriend who doesn't really do it. But whenever he does call me "baby" my heart flutters and my stomach knots up.
I usually call him (not all the time) baby, sweetheart, love, honey, b, basically anything that feel right in the moment10 Reply
+1 yAs for myself I don't care what you call me ( shithead, dipshit, pendejo, cabrón.) Just don't call me late for supper or sex.
I might be Latino & born a Yankee, but I grew up in Texas & I live the cowboy & redneck life.

+1 yAh, good question.
I've been called babe by girlfriends, and I've had no problem with it.
I suppose it depends on the guy. Same with girls.
Every girl is darling to me, it's part of how I talk, but girlfriends are usually babe, baby, babygirl, my love or my angel. Some like it, some don't. Pet names are usually fine for most people.
I suggest trying one, and if they don't complain, it's ok. Just don't fall into the trap of saying it TOO MUCH, like in every sentence.10 Reply- 2.7K opinions shared on Dating topic.
+1 yMy ex often called me Babe and occasionally Baby. It was endearing coming from her. As common as it is, it was a first coming from a girlfriend so specifically from her I likes it. A woman after her called me Babe... it didn’t quite have the same effect. If anything, it just reminded me of my ex who also used my name a lot... something the other woman never did. Which is bizarre to me.

+1 yI just say babe and prefer that myself too. Not that I don't mind saying baby or being called baby myself... But it's just that you never really call an actual baby a babe so it just feels more fitting. You know what I mean?
10 Reply 2.2K opinions shared on Dating topic. I like it :) Nothing wrong with that. I mean my best friend calls me mochi bear or bean i really don't mind. Affection i feel when i hear it that is the only thing that matters.
10 ReplyMy husband hates babe or baby. I started calling him monkey as a joke, but 12 years later he loves monkey and thinks its cute. Though we don't use nicknames in public.

+1 yIt doesn't bother me, but some guys might feel a little affronted. As a general rule, I'd stick with more masculine-sounding pet names until you've got a better feel for what he likes.

In New Orleans every single person you meet with the local accent is "baby".

@ValleyofDrakes That's kind of funny. More of an exception though, as in it may be cool there but I think most people in most of America mostly feel what I'm saying. Never been to New Orleans, want to though.
