Why do guys lie about their height on dating apps?

Like seriously, we’re gonna meet you and see how tall you are.
My friend had a date with a guy that put his height as 5’10. When they met, he was clearly her height (5’7). My boyfriend who I met on a dating app put 5’11 on his profile. After we met he said his height is 5’10. A couple months later he says his height is 5’9. He says he never put 5’11 in his profile, but I have a strong memory sooo 😂

Or maybe you're memory isn't as great as you think and all the guys you viewed blended together and you think you remember him changing his height. Also if a guy is actually lying about his height chances are it's an insecurity of his and maybe he's been rejected by a number of females because considered to short by them even if they themselves are 4'0". The other possibility is they might be going off of their height on their ID, since I was 18 my ID always said I was 5'10", even when I got my learner's but when I got my license the girl at the registry looked me up and down and said there was no way I was 5'10" and she had me stand against the wall where they get measurements, which I did stand 5'10" but she said to take of my shoes and I dropped down to 5'8" which is what it now says is my height. That was the first time I had to take my shoes off at a registry for my height and I had to even get a new passport after I had just got my first one at that time. So I always thought I was 5'10" but it turned out I was shorter and your friends date might have the same issue.

You have to take into consideration that it is a dating site also to mention how much importance women put on height leaving men insecure about it, there are times that a guy could have the right qualities but if he's not tall enough then they instantly move on. like you mentioned you are gonna meet them eventually, but that's the idea behind it, if you talk to them because they are tall that means you will get to know them through text, in hopes they can show you that they have a good personality and character and there is more to them to just height, so when seeing them you won't even be bothered about the height and maybe overlook it because you already have a sense of bond with them VS. you seeing their height and not giving them the time of day because they are not tall.

I found a way around that thanks to a lovely man on here that told me we actually have the ability to set a height preference.
I set mine to 6,3, I feel a little weird only going for super tall guys but shorter guys feel the need to lie and to me that’s a red flag, I don’t want to be with someone who is gonna lie about small things to appear like a better person, that’s shiesty af,
I’d wonder what else he’d lie about or has, I wouldn’t trust him not one bit smh.
This has once happened to me with a hookup I was gonna go see him he told me he was 5,8 and when I met him he was literally 5,4of 5,3 at the shortest.
I was in shock and disbelief, I’m 5,6 so of course it was obvious to me he wasn’t nowhere near 5,8, I told him I had to do something and if he could drop me off before I ended up going up his stairs with him because I couldn’t do it and on top off that dude stinked bad af so I was just over it completely.
He didn’t bother to shower but tried to cover that up by dressing nice I was just confused disgusted and felt lied to

For the same reason lots of women lie about their weight/body thpe on dating sites - they think it’s going to increase their chances of meeting someone. And yeah, it’s stupid because like you say your date is going to notice when you meet irl. I would never feel comfortable lying about anything on my dating profile, I’d be way too nervous and embarrassed when meeting up. I want my date to have a real and realistic picture of me, both my looks and personality, before we meet because then I know they’re actually interested in ME as I am not some false fantasy image of myself that I gave them. That’s at least a good start.

Because dating apps are a numbers game. The taller you are, the more options you have, the more likely you are to attract more women. Apps are shit for men anyway so its not like it matters, but i'm 5'4 and never lie about it on apps. The number of matches I do get is extremely low and I feel like thats part of it. If I were to bullshit my height and make it taller, I would probably increase the amount of matches I would get. Did try it one time actually, I BSed being 6 feet and got more matches. Obviously that would looks really fake in person.

Wait what? You say "we’re gonna meet you and see how tall you are." but then you said your boyfriend's real height was only revealed when he TOLD you he is actually 5'9. So you didn't see how tall he really is and it clearly worked, maybe you'd have rejected him right away if he said 5'9, It looks worse on paper so it's more likely you get rejected than if you say 5'11. Some women don't even go on a date with someone <6 feet. So if a guy is 5'11 it's better to just say 6' because in reality she wouldn't even notice the difference. So how truthful is the 6 feet minimum requirement if in reality she doesn't notice the missing one inch she claims is so important.

The simplest answer is these people are under the impression that all they need to do is win someone over enough to get them to meet physically where they think their personality will make up for it.

Thats the reason i haven't lied about it on dating apps. Like i can understand a slight discrepancy due to some using metric and might not understand imperial so it mighe be off but by probs an inch at most or 2cm due to converting it. But yea, she's going to see me for real so best not to start with a lie.
