Says he just wants to be friends?

I’ve been talking to this guy from the states. (I’m from Canada) for 1.5 years right at the start of covid.
Things were going great. He bought me air pods with my name in hearts for Christmas and I bought him a birthday present and we were FaceTiming at least 3 times a week and keeping in touch.
I’m a nurse so I suggested moving to the states to travel nurse so we could date and be together. He was happy about that at first. He is Christian and wouldn’t cheat. We were in a in between phase of being friends but dating even tho we can’t date.

a couple weeks ago we had a argument and he lost his job and moved back to his parents. He said he can’t handle the stress of a relationship right now but just wants to be friends. He struggles with bad anxiety.
what do I do? I’ve already purchased a USA work visa and took a nursing exam.

Just do what you want to do. Be a travel nurse. Him not being in your life won't affect that in any way.

However, you don't necessarily have to give up on him if you don't want to. If you like him, you have the right to pursue him. It sounds to me like he's depressed right now, so you're going to have to push him a little to convince him that things will be okay.

So. I don't know when I made this question.
I still have feelings for him, and want him.

He got a new job in may and met a girl there closer to where he lives. He said he wasn’t ready to date or anything just that they are hanging out and he likes her. I booked a flight In July to meet up with him and see if there was anything there between us after almost 2 years. He told me that she’s now his girlfriend.

It sucks because he was my best friend. And it feels like he threw it everything away for what feels like a rebound relationship. It sucks.

But this is my honest take on the situation: it sounds to me like he is emotionally immature, and he doesn't know how to handle tough situations. So maybe you dodged a bullet by not being with him.

I'd say just move on with your life. It wasn't meant to be.

I really really wish I could be that type of person.
But I’m not, I’ll probably change my mind in a couple of months but at least for now I’m going to hold onto the hope that he will realize he made a mistake. That’s just me tho. I always end up hurt but I never stop fighting :)

Update I moved here and a week after I moved here he got engaged to that girl after only knowing her for 6 months.
🤷🏼‍♀️ Kinda hoping it doesn’t work out but also trying to move on.:(

Hey i can relate to you as my ex girlfriend did the same with me she's from mexico and i had to move there for her and then she got engaged to another guy within 2 weeks of me moving there and after 6 months she got married to him. I hope your story has an happy ending.
