He acts interested but says he just wants to be friends?

So me and this guy have been friends for two years. We have spent countless hours on the phone, we tease each other, banter, flirt, and he remembers many small details about me (even the outfit I wore when we first met) and many other small details about experiences we have shared in the past. He has also been very emotional about decisions I have made when I didn't involve him. Also, I have given many hints that I liked him and he always seem to increase the amount of flirting when I would do so. He also never wants our conversations to end and initiates them all the time. I have confessed my feelings to him and he says that he only sees me as a friend. Did I read too much into his actions and or is there more to the story? Do I continue to be friends or break it off?

I was in your same situation a month ago. It's complicated now because we're not in contact for the moment, but this is what I think: He either doesn't know he has feelings or isn't ready to admit that yet. Not that I have too much experience since I'm young, but I feel like some guys don't want to settle down into a relationship because that means they give up other options/love interests. Not sure if your guy is like that, but the majority of guys I met are. I've even met a guy that openly admitted to the girl that he liked her, but refused to get in a relationship with her. I based on what you said though, this guy seems like he cares more about you than just a little fling. I hope you figure things out because saying he doesn't have feelings does not add up.
