Is there any such thing as the "friend zone"?

There is, hence why we have come up with descriptive term for it. It exists when you are seen as a friend and nothing more but have ambitions to be more. You are not in the relationship zone in the eyes of the other person, you are in their friend zone. It is not physically impossible to escape it, as in there are no actual physical barriers, but most times you cannot because the other person just doesn't find you attractive and never will. That's why you're a friend, not a partner.

I understand that, but the term, in my mind at least, implies that a man, because he has feelings for a woman, is entitled to a relationship with her, which he isn't. That, and it sounds not just misogynistic, but rather defeatist in a way.

well depends on what "friendzone" means to you. to me, friendzone is when a person already knows that their crush isn't romantically or sexually interested in them but wants to stay friends. and then they decide to stay friends, low key hoping to get a chance anyway. that for me is "the friendzone". you don't think that's a thing? i beg to differ xD it happens a lot.

There definitely is a friend zone, a category of people you see as friends and only friends. However, I don't believe anyone has the ability to consciously put people in the friend zone. It happens unknowingly. There's also a romantic zone, a dislike zone and many other zones you have people in in your mind, subconsciously.

I'm talking mainly in the way that people online make it out to exist. As this impenetrable prison where you're doomed to forever linger if your crush doesn't like you back. Men easily fall into the trap of thinking that because one woman doesn't like them romantically or sexually, no woman ever will.
