Why is my boyfriend so clingy in bed?

Question

My boyfriend sleeps under me when he stays over. Sometimes I’m near the edge of the bed that’s how close he is to me at night.

He will hold me tight so I’m unable to move. If i try to scoot over he will scoot near me. If i try to get up he will grab me so i can’t move to even try and use the bathroom.

When i wake up he’s nearly on top of me. His head will be on my shoulder while he’s cuddling me from behind..

Is he consciously doing this? If not, odds are he migrates towards heat... My siblings and I did when were kids, sometimes sharing beds at hotels when traveling so we'd end up beating each other in our sleep. My older brother hogs sheets, basically cocooning himself and leaving me in the cold, so I would have to cling to the edge of the sheet for dear life... I would end up kicking him in the middle of the night when I was asleep due to the heat migration thing... If you need to use the bathroom, either wake him up or hit him lightly somewhere to make his and go investigate the irritation, thus freeing yourself. You could shake things up and cuddle him from behind, see how that works. Otherwise, find a way to hold or you'll have to wet the bed... You could possibly turn enough and pee on him, that'll either make him stop or reveal a fetish ;)...

He probably really likes holding you. If you have a problem with it you can always convince him to buy a new mattress for himself but that's probably not ideal. You can also set physical boundaries when you sleep so you don't feel squished when you wake up. If that doesn't work just tell him to get his touchiness done when you are both awake and then say touching is off limits when you sleep together and then you can set up your phone to record a video every time you sleep and see if he stays true to that if you have enough space and if not you can buy a video camera or make him hold a plushie or your jacket or something that resembles you and your smell but isn't actually you

My partner is like this sometimes. He gets a lot of comfort and security from it, and sleeps better with me than when he’s home alone.
I don’t mind it, but don’t sleep all night like that. It’s uncomfortable for me. It is annoying however, when he grabs me when I leave the bed!
My partner does have issues, and I think this may be the case with your partner too. There’s being close and cuddling, and I feel this is more about the need to feel safe and secure…?

Is it just because it's uncomfortable and/or difficult to sleep.
If so just tell him you need your space when you sleep at night and it has nothing to do with the amount of affection he's showing.

If it is that he's showing too much affection or you think there's something wrong with him wanting to cuddle and hold you a lot, that kinda makes me feel a bit sad and concerned.
