Is it rude to tell someone to enjoy their life and go out more?

My friend recently moved to new city and whenever I ask how r u he always says I am surviving... he is working all the time and not going out so I told him that I think u need to enjoy ur life and go out more and try to explore new place and make new friend... try to thrive instead of survive. Was I rude to tell him to get out more and try to enjoy his life and adapt.
