Why did this girl leave me on read?

This girl my friend had been trying to get me to date texted me on Instagram she said hey and I texted back whats up and she hasn’t responded and it’s been an hour and it says seen, I’m currently in summer school with her and my friend he told me she liked me but she left me on read so I don’t know if she really likes me or not. Several things. Many people are extremely busy. You don't know whether she is busy with something, and only had time to open and read the message rather than writing a reply. She may also be thinking of a good way to continue the conversation - not everyone is comfortable striking up convos with new people. She may just not be in the mental space to reply - I know I've had times where I've been upset by a certain thing and didn't have the energy to have conversations even with friends, much less acquaintances. It may also just be that she isn't interested in you, and was pressured to text by your friend. Whichever it is, do not spam her with messages. I can assure you that she didn't forget about your existence. If she feels like replying she will, but don't push her into doing so.
