Because guys are too stupid to realize that majority of these "pretty girls" don't have anything interesting to say until their courting the loser girl they never gave a chance in their class 20 years later. Pretty don't last is all I'll tell ya & most of the people who marry for looks divorce. My dad went to highschool with my mom and he was insanely popular and my mother wasn't. He always went with the prettiest most popular girls in school. He never got with my mom till they were in their 40s... and he always tells me "I should've given your mother a chance to begin with." He always tells me that the quiet ones that you overlook are the most interesting & intelligent ones and those are the types of girls you need to marry.

If you have a bunch of silent mannequins, all with no words, and no personalities, who's going to get the most attention? The prettiest ones.

Get a personality. Get some confidence. Learn things about the world, be inquisitive, and get out of your shell. You are more than your exterior.

And News Flash: The world does not revolve around only the best looking people getting into relationships. Everyone gets to play. But don't be a girl on the sidelines, waiting to get picked. Go after what you want. Not just with boys, but with everything in life. It's your life, you've got one, and time's a wastin'.

Everyone always aims for the most handsome, good looking sexiest person we can.

at school, it’s a given that the perfect guy will go after the perfect girl.

as we get older though, we learn that going for best looking is not always best move, as we learn more about personality and how important it is in a relationship.

unfortunately depending on your age, this will be the case for a number of years. I think it starts changing at about 20, when we learn there is more to life than just looks, although some never learn.

I think that has to do with nature. It's built in to us from the early days to find the person with the best genes to mate with whereas women look for the strongest or in this day and age, the most financially capable man to father their children as they would be the best provider. They would have typically slept with 2-3 other mates so none of them was sure exactly who's kid it was and that would help ensure them having the best chance of that kid surviving as males wouldn't want someone else's kids taking up resources.

Because there's an order of operations.

Personality is more important, but looks are important too and the first thing a person sees is looks. So you start at the most physically attractive person and try to find out if they're personally compatible, if they're not then you move down the list in order of physical attractiveness.

So why do guys go for the pretty girls despite your supposedly better personal compatibility? One, because you either aren't pretty enough and should fix that first, or two, because you're not taking any initiative. Girls who take initiative get to jump to the front of the line.

Partly that's just the marketplace of dating, partly it's because high school social dynamics are really unhealthy. Dating one of the "in" girls brings social status. Be patient, after high school things get a lot more real. What makes you believe you are "average looking"? A good haircut and well-chosen clothes can make a huge difference in anyone's appearance.

I think it's probably the immaturity of teenagers. Not to say that being physically attracted to someone isn't important. I think once guys/girls start getting past their horny younger years, most of them start to prioritize personalities and common interests a little more.

High School is the worst place where this goes on. People are affected by peer pressure and if they date somebody that is not considered cool that they are losers. When you go to college it will get better.
