You've probably been watching too many romance movies or reading too many whimsical posts on the internet if you think that looks don't matter. There has been something of a shame constructed around people's looks in our society where admiring them is too easily confused with being shallow. People, in all their wisdom, do the typical thing where they swing from one side of the spectrum all the way to the other. People are very polarized and it's harder to teach them NOT to be than it is to actually teach them healthy thoughts and behavior.

Looks are the very first thing you notice about a person. It's how your display yourself to others, how they perceive you, it's an indicator of many things (health, self-discipline, esteem, confidence, class, etc.)... so no matter how much YOU think you are above seeing that- if you're human (or so much as an animal), it's part of your criteria and what you see in others. You can deny natural behavior, but you can't shed these natural behaviors.

Now for the question of "why do some girls only like good-looking guys", it could be any number of reasons or explanations. Perhaps they feel they're also attractive, and could reasonably pair up with that person. Perhaps they're doing the natural thing as I mentioned before and are going after the best prospect they can get. Perhaps they don't have the shame that others do about pursuing attractive people. Who knows every single reason out there for every single person?

But just the way you set this question up, makes me think you either haven't thought about this stuff in this light before. Or you're one of those that have hopped on the bandwagon that shames people for chasing beauty and they don't even know why they shame it.

Everyone does not have the same opinion on what is good looking. One person may think Brad Pit is good looking but i dont think he is good looking at all.

If you find someone to be atractive then that means you think they are good looking. Just because you do not think the guy looks like what you think society thinks is good looking does not mean that you do not think the guy is good looking. Beauty/good looks is realative so there really is no universal criteria for what beauty/good looks is.

@GoldCobra depends on the person. Some chicks love the "washboard abs" but I kinda find that a turn off. I don't know. I prefer really skinny, scrawny guys. And my most recent ex had a gut. He was overweight, but I still found him irresistible. It mostly depends on the person.
I don't really find blonde hair attractive either. I don't know. I never have. Not saying all people with blonde hair are ugly, but I never saw it as the "hottest" like most people do. I actually think redheads are sexiest. Or at least red hair is the best in my opinion. It'd be red, jet black, brown, grey hair, and then last blonde hair for me. It depends on the person.

It can be BOTH subjective AND objective. Like you said, you have your preferences and other people have their own preferences. We all have preferences right? So one guy may find one girl to be hot, but another guy may find her to be ugly. Some guys like thick girls, others like thin girls. Some girls like beards, others like no beards. This is the subjective side.

However, you cannot deny that the vast majority of people find certain models or celebrities to be hot. Even in your own life, i'm sure that you have come across guys that you and your friends have all agreed to be hot. There are guys out there that most girls would consider to be hot. Likewise, there are girls out there that make a lot of guys turn their heads. This is the objective side.
