My boyfriend has been attending college parties on weeknights. Why am I so bothered?

My boyfriend goes to university only about an hour away from me, and lately he’s been going to sorority parties every other weeknight. I’m not worried about cheating or anything because I feel that’s something to worry about when it actually happens, but I feel like he’s being an idiot. He doesn’t really drink, doesn’t do drugs, but his college is pretty much known for drugs. I guess it makes me mad because he’s going for biomedical engineering so he’s a smart guy, but why is he being dumb? This is the kind of stuff that makes someone flunk out of school. Weekends make sense, but I feel like partying during the weekdays is nonsense. Why am I more worried about his education than he is?

If a guy is going to a party I can only tell you the truth that he’s either drinking or participating in the fun with his friends. If he decides to party then that’s his future on the line and not yours. Support your partner but don’t let it be your duty to build and baby him. His Mom gave birth to him and that should be her responsibility.

You’re right. It’s just really hard though when you love someone and care about their future and they don’t seem to 😕 He’s going to school fully paid for, and it actually makes me really angry that he doesn’t seem to appreciate that.

I assume you've talked to him about this already? I know you probably don't want to sound like the controlling girlfriend, but maybe you could tell him what you think. Remind him that it's best to focus on his classes if he doesn't want to get a bad grade (lowering his GPA) or fail a class altogether. I know I need better time management, but I'd rather not go to parties than have to repeat the class next semester. We need to think of the consequences and what we are really doing.

I have! This is such odd behavior because this is the same guy who for the couple first weeks of college would go to bed at 10 P. M. Sadly, he had super strict parents growing up and I think this may unfortunately be the time he’s deciding to act out.

My guess is he has probably found himself some idiot friends. Guys his age who get idiot friends do idiotic things. Been there and done that sad to say as well!
