What did I do wrong?

I am a 43 year old woman and I went on a date with a 45 year old guy. We met on a dating website 2 years ago. However, I wasn't feeling him and kind of let things fizzle out. I just stopped responding to his texts. Fast forward we connected on a different dating site this year. I decided to try an in person date with him.

I picked the restaurant a casual carribean late lunch type. I wore distressed jeans with clear mule heel shoes and a slight crop top that was lace. Mind you my whole stomach was not out It just hit a little above waist. And, I wore my hair down. In my profile pictures I don't wear my glasses but I put them on for our date but took them off so he could get a look at me.

We met in person and he was shorter than me but in great shape. However, I had gained weight so I was a little heavier at 5'4. We had a decent conversation and he seemed really down to earth. After our meal he asked if I was ready to go and I said ok. He walked me to my car and gave me a goodbye hug. Later that day he texted he thought I was an amazing woman. I told him I thought he was awesome and that I enjoyed talking with him.

A day later texted me hey beautiful what are you doing and I replied in kind. Earlier today I texted that I hope he was having a good day. But I noticed that he was keeping our communication via the app even though I gave him my new cell number.

At one point he said I was everything he was looking for in a woman. And, how disappointed he was things didn't work out the first time.

I went to the dating app this evening today and saw he blocked me.

My guy friend kept telling me I should have said to him that I wanted to hang out again to show my interest. I however am used to the guy asking me out so I didn't take my friends advice.

What could I have done differently? If so, why did he bother to text how amazing I was and beautiful after our date if he wasn't into me? Or, was he just trying to pay me back for ghosting him when first met 2 years.
