I've driven $300 used transportation and $100,000 rare 'classics' ... depending upon my life's fiscal up's & downturns. I've gone bankrupt three times because my employers suddenly 'disappeared'. and learned to not make long financial commitments borne of employer's alleged assurances, WITHOUT a 'plan B'.

Those were hard-won life lessons and if you were to judge me solely on my PUBLIC 'persona'
you would be SORELY mistaken!

I'm more interested in WHY he is driving a basic and boring car.

Some guys are super pragmatic with money, and prefer to invest in a property, while living frugally. I would prefer that over a man with no financial wherewithal, who is splashing out on a fancy car he can't really afford.

But if he drives a super basic car simply because he is cheap or lazy/unambitious, that's a different story.

The car itself is not what's of essence. It's what it represents about him that is more meaningful.

It makes no difference to me what she drives. If she's my girlfriend then all I want is for it to be safe and reliable. And because she is my girlfriend I want her to feel good in it, so hopefully she could have something she likes aesthetically as well.
As for myself, I would hope a girl didn't care too much about my vehicle. As long as it doesn't smell like cigarettes or make an annoying noise it should be all good. I can see it being a turn on for her to see me in a nicer car, but the keyword is seeing ME in a nicer car, like because she cares about me and wants me to be happy!

sure, what they are driving doesn't make them a better person.
I've had crappy cars, some I've only paid 50 bucks for, remember I'm older, and I was fine with it.
If I'm being judged solely on what I drive by someone, I will not be with that person.
Anyone can make car payments, some will be making them for such a long time that at some point they will owe more than what the car is worth, then what do you have?
I have always owned several vehicles, and on first a nd the next few dates if there was a next date, I usually used my pickup truck.
It was older, always ran great, it was clean inside, but it was a basic truckSo that way the person would be dating me because of who I was, not what I drove.

I think you'd have to be crazy to buy something like that brand new, but with insurance prices for younger drivers being what they are, a secondhand Yaris is a pretty good choice (once you get old enough for insurance to not be an issue, they stop making sense).

I would, but it would disappoint me just a bit, because I really like cars. I drive a 2 seater sports car with a stick shift, so I would probably do all the driving if that were the case. Fortunately, my boyfriend is a car guy himself, and has a nice sports car himself, but I still do most of the driving, lol.
