Why do you think this 17 year old girl didn't like me?

We went on a date. The date only lasted a few hours until she ended it. I was so disappointed. Do you think it is because I held her hand? Or do you think it was because I was just hideously unattractive?

I was respectful and bought her lunch. We talked for about a month before we met. I really liked her, so I was sad that not only she ended the date, but she cut me off completely.

It's not you it's her. It seems every person including women have a tragic past that's holding them back and not able to let them move on. So of course she's going to cut you off because she's not ready to be in a relationship because she probably was in another relationship and it probably ended worse than the movie Hellraiser. That's how it is with relationships these days you're fine someone that you might think you like and then eventually they just cut you off entirely without a reason. If I was you I wouldn't focus on women that's just going to cut you off entirely, you should try going to college get like 4 or 5 phds in bio-engineering and in mechanical and build yourself an artificial girlfriend. Apparently nobody's willing to let go knowing that each relationship always end up worse than before and before that and before that and before that.

FYI, I dated probably a dozen girls before I married one. And then, after my middle-age divorce, I dated another 10 women before I found my SO.

- They weren't interested enough to bridge the age disparity
- The age difference made itself apparent with the date
- They saw it not working out, got bored or were expecting a better match

I am still rather heartbroken about it. We talked for a month. She reminded me so much like the last girl. Sadly, both ended up not going past the first date.

You do sound insecure. Given that odds are already stacked against you for your romantized type of girl, working on being a better suitor may seem contradictory, but it's the recommendation I can think of. As you get older, 17 will seem too young at some point. Being all or nothing with the aspiration of being a girl's first sounds hurtful. You can try to live that dream vicariously through romantic shows and discussing your sentiments with an empathetic friend. Preferably a female friend that thinks positively about that sort of dream. Not everyone gets a chance at young love (early teen, or just puppy love) for example, but people don't let that get them down despite it being romanticized and idealized everywhere.
