Risk of mechanical failure, human error, animals, and a number of others pose risks to the rider. Sort of like dating a cop.

There is no changing their mind. You have to ride yourself to understand.

What are your thoughts? Would you learn to ride yourself?

No, motorcycles are dumb. People who ride them when there are cars around have the common sense god gave a chicken.
It's not in the forefront of other driver's minds to look for motorcycles, because they are not a threat to their life like another car is. Nobody is ever thinking "I have to watch out for motorcycles" because the motorcycles to not cause them to fear for their life like an oncoming truck. Plus cars never see them because they are so small. I talked to my friend's dad who was a cop for like 30 years, and he said all the drivers who hit motorcycle riders with their cars days the same thing- "I never even saw him". My dad got hit by cars 2 different times on his motorcycle, both times it was the car driver's fault. One time he broke his femur and hit his head on the edge of a curb, his helmet came off in 2 pieces, split in two by the edge of the curb. The second time he broke his back, and then he quit riding because he wanted to keep living. He decided there were too many cars on the road in L. A. to survive.
Riding motorcycles would be fine if you were only on the road with other motorcycles, but you're not. You're surrounded on the road by much bigger cars that can kill you, and half of them are driven by idiots in a hurry who are not paying attention.

His crashes happened before I was born. My mom told him if he wanted kids with her, he better give up the motorcycles because she didn't want to raise us alone. I don't think some shits and giggles is worth the risk. I rode a motorcycle one time in my life, out in the desert when my friends were riding dirtbikes. I jumped it clear over a one lane dirt road and landed it, then decided I had no business on such a machine.

I used to do a lot of bicycle riding, almost got myself killed doing that. I used to like driving fast, got a lot of tickets in my 66 Chevelle back in the late 90's. When I got on that motorcycle, I realized that I'm not cautious enough to ride motorcycles.

I have owned and raced motorcycles since I was 16. Harley, Indian, both road bikes and TT dirt track. Honda off-road, Suzuki, and Kawasaki.

I'm nuts. I'm dropped a dirt bike coming off a hill in 5th gear onto a baseball diamond. The upside is I made a home run, the downside is I dropped the bike. I've had some spills on the Harley TT bikes. But I never did drop a road bike.

As a woman that loves bikes, I'd personally love a guy that's a biker! Even moreso if we went riding together!

I mean yes, they're dangerous, but people get in car wrecks too... hell, any vehicle can technically be "dangerous" when you're on the road with other people. Just practice safe driving, make sure they're aware of your presence, and wear a helmet.

While riding on the back is fun, I'd rather drive myself and he can ride on the back or better yet get his own when he complains I should be on the back cause my hair is in his face.

I think so too, mine is blue though, and I put a trunk on the back to replace the sissy bar. It also has leather saddle bags that are getting kind of old from previous owner but it works great for having plenty of room to put stuff in the saddle bags and the trunk, even for longer road trips.

Only downside is can't ride it year round, unless I want to freeze... almost took it out yesterday cause it was 65 but got too busy with my boyfriend.

As I live about 45 miles to the city, its a great commuter vehicle, but really good at going on mountain roads in the fall to see changing leaves and weaving on the winding roads.

I knew a few people in the past who owned a motorcycle and they were pretty reckless. One of these people was the boyfriend of a former colleague of mine. She was in the same shift as me working in a gas station and one evening her boyfriend came by his cross motorbike. He decided to show off by doing 120 km/h (75 mph) on the rear wheel (the front wheel was in the air) but he didn't take into account the waveform of the asphalt. Yes, the "waveform" bc that stretch hadn't seen repairs for 35 years before that evening. This resulted in him sliding on his back next to his bike. When he stopped, he couldn't move and all of the skin from his back had remained on the asphalt.
I've also read (quite recently, I might add) about motorbikers in my country (we call them "rockers" bc the most of them listen to hard rock) who had an accident on the highway and literally lost their heads as a result of the impact.

I wouldn't like to fall for a rocker and some day to get a visit by cops or doctors to tell me I'll never see them again. That's why the answer is firmly a "NO"!

I ride with my friends with benefits Stevie. He has a motorcycle the size of a small car.

It has a 6 cylinder engine and 7 speeds. It would be way to big for me to ride but maybe a small one I would consider, but I think I prefer just riding on the back with him for now.

I use to ride in tank top and shorts or mini skirt, but now he makes me ride with armored clothing and an air vest on for protection.

Another thing I like about riding with him is he has a fetish for finding secluded areas to do naughty things outdoors and I would hate to give that up... lol

lol Yes, the secluded places to be found are a huge hidden bonus to riding. - The air vests are great invention! - A Honda Rebel is a great bike for starting out. Low and light, and looks hot.

I will ride everything. Started on dirt which is getting harder on the body. Thought I would like cruisers but too heavy and not as nimble so sold them. Moving to more upright street styles which is safer in traffic/ more reactive. I may get an adventure bike in the future.. not sure yet. Also have a beloved scooter. lol

Something maybe 400 to 700 cc for day rides on the road would do it for me I think. Maybe one that could go on or off road.

Oh, yes. Feel the same with heavier bikes. That weight has kept me on the fence with the adventure bikes. They have been reducing weight in the newer models. I think it’s the BMW or Honda Africa Twin that is now lighter than my scooter. Hope that opens choices for you too if you ever decide one for yourself.

I wouldn't date someone that didn't like to ride, either themselves or as a passenger.
They would be alone quite often.
I had a scooter before I had my drivers license, and I can still remember the day I got my temps so I could ride on the road.
the feeling was so great, freedom, the wind blowing, just being on the road at 45mph on my Vespa with the slightly bent front wheel.
It was still great.
I have ridden in all of the 48 lower states, Canada, Mexico & Hawaii.
I used to race motocross, was pretty good at that, and have 2 bikes in the garage.
So for me I am fine with it, for others, it just isn't their thing, which is fine, I would just find someone else.

It's in Door County, going to north port to the ferry to Washington Island.
If there aren't any cars coming you can pretty much go straight all the through, but following the road is more fun.

I grew up on dirt bikes my wife and kids kinda put a stop to me riding I’ve broke several bones like several bones but the feeling of hitting a jump as hard as you can and you’re just flying easily high enough to clear a house no problem and I am the wheelie king I could go for miles doing a wheelie run through all my gears going up hills down hills turn corners and all so hell yes I would I tried to teach my wife years ago but she couldn’t take her eyes off the front tire and as I’m trying to give a couple last minute reminders to her she just pops the clutch and takes off so I had to chase her down in my boxers barefooted in the high desert I caught her though

Mechanical failure is really only an issue with Harley Davidsons.
I ride a Japanese knockoff that is far better engineered than the original.
An old biker joke is that the greatest expense involved in owning a Harley Davidson is the recovery vehicle and mechanic who have to follow the motorcycle at a discreet distance.

My wife said it was a deal breaker. She is a physical therapist and had seen plenty of guys all busted up from motorcycle accidents. I had my learners permit and was shopping for a bike when we met.
I bought a 4 wheel drive vehicle and I had fun with that instead.

I prefer a three wheeler over a quad any day I had a Honda 250R I think it was made in 1985 it was a 2stroke three wheeler it was a beast but my true love is two wheels and the power band on a two stroke motorcycle is such a blast and yes I’ve broken several bones on dirt bikes and loved every minute of it

I was with a man that used to ride a motorcycle and the idea of it terrified me. I’ve been on a Honda motorcycle but I rode it in a friends backyard. I couldn’t get the hang of it and it just never felt comfortable for me.
So I think I could be with someone who rides but it would worry me sick!

Yeah, make sure you check maintenance costs when you pick one too. Some are cheaper to maintain than others. Cost of tires I go through, towing and install evens out with gas for my truck. Then you have regular maintenance too on top. They really are more fun then money saving, even if you can do most of it yourself. So worth it though. 😁

No never and it´s kind of a dealbreaker to me. At school times two guys had severe accidents in the area close to our school, that they survived with a lot of luck. They wore all the protection clothes that bikers normally have but that wasn´t much of help for them.
They had to repeat a whole school year because of that.

It is SOOOOO easy to become a pancake if you ride your motorcycle all the time; especially if you tend to driver on the faster side. If I had to ride a motorcycle I would drive under the speedlimit.

It’s not really my thing especially after coming across an accident where a person on a sports bike got killed in a pretty brutal way.

I’d probably worry about them whenever they got on it due to the amount of motorcycle accidents that happen here. But as long as they stayed safe and took precautions I’d be ok with it.
