How long should I wait for him to ask me to be his girlfriend?

we been talking for a month which isn’t that long but we’ve been on 8 dates & we talk everyday, I haven’t waited this long but after two months I feel like you should know if you want to date someone so i’ll wait & break it to him because ill just feel like nothings going anywhere & im his back up for when he’s waiting for something better ( <<<that’s me overthinking lol) but yeah he’s sweet we’ve been to church together & more. we haven’t met each other’s family yet but he’s told his dad about me.

Also we talked about being friends first & talking to others too in the beginning which i agreed on because i didn’t know him well and then weeks past & i said im ready to date him & he said okay lol.

Why don't you ask him? And based on how it's gone in this case, he may not be sure how you feel, so might be why you feel like you're a "backup", because maybe he feels like he is to you? Or, he's not serious in general (depends on the type of guy he is). But I'd talk to him. Just say something like, "we've been dating for a while now, what are you looking for or see this becoming?" And tell him what you'd like. Now a days, often people ask this before or on the first date even, "what are your intentions", so people aren't wasting their time if you aren't looking for the same things.

He probably just thinks if he asks you might second Guess your Relationship with him and you might decide you don't have feelings for him so he is probably afraid to ask, If you really like him and you think he really likes you just ask him if you can be his Girlfriend or if he can be your Boyfriend.
