How do you know you’re in the right state to date?

I, personally, am not in the right state of mind to date anyone at the moment because I have a lot on my plate. I have been feeling indifferent and numb to everyone and everything for the past few days, not sure why. Probably one of my depressive episodes kicking back again, but I’ll manage.

It all depends on your current state and your past relationship. The best time to date is when you are not seeking the affirmation of someone else, but feel happy and confident in your own skin.

Are you trying to get back into the dating scene after a break up or is this your first relationship?

When you start becoming your priority - you need to prioritize yourself and concentrate on bettering and making yourself ready before jumping into a relationship. If you are struggling with your mental health, it is best not to date.

- Relationships are all about give and take. You are willing to be unselfish. Relationships aren’t always 50/50, it can be 70/30 sometimes or 60/40, but it’s all about compromise and meeting someone halfway.

- You have moved on from your past relationships/partners. It is never a good idea to date someone if you are not over your ex partner. Keeping tabs on what your ex is doing is not only infringing on your recovery process, but it shows that you’re not ready to commit to someone new.

- You are excited about the prospects of meeting someone new and getting romantically entangled with them. Dates can be quite fun, but also super exhausting. If you are ready to date, you’ll feel ready. You’d want to meet people. You’ll put in the effort to strike up a conversation.

- You are making choices for the right reasons. If you are going through a rough patch, and are sad/depressive or want to seek revenge on your ex, it is not a good idea to get back in the dating scene. If you feel like you are still sad about your past relationship (s), best not to date. Sometimes, when you’re emotional, your judgment is clouded by your emotions, so you’ll end up making decisions you may regret in the future.

Honestly, it’s best to date when you feel fully ready. Don’t feel pressured by your friends/colleagues. Go at your own pace. Good luck 😊
