One of my guy best friends have liked me for years but couldn’t date me because his life wasn’t together to have a girlfriend. So after that I started dating other guys which he somehow took track of. He knew every guy who I talked to and dated. I didn’t want to wait for him because I thought he wasn’t serious. So like 2 years later he gets his life together and has a nice job and he admitted to having feelings for me. Quickly after he meets this girl who he’s been hanging out with. He hung out with both of us but I couldn’t tell who he liked more. Some days he was with her then other days he was with me. So she ends up leaving to go to another state and he literally tells me to my face that she was leaving, all frustrated and asked when was i leaving (I’m leaving Togo to school out of state) then proceeds to say “at least I have you.” I didn’t think anything of it and We are dating.

You are the 2nd choice, but don't be surprised. Here's what I see.

"He hung out with both of us but I couldn’t tell who he liked more" - If he wasn't moving forward with you because of her presence, you're #2. You're not stopping progress with #1.

"So she ends up leaving to go to another state and he literally tells me to my face that she was leaving, all frustrated" - That's a strong response for a "friend" he hasn't known for years.

"at least I have you.” - I'd forgive him if he's known to put his foot in his mouth. Otherwise, wow.

It sounds to me it was more like he was undecided and suddenly the choice was made for him.
