What should I do to get a guys attention on a dating app?

Should I make the first move or is that wrong?
If I should, what should I say?

This is where I get stuck. I never know what to say. The app suggests I send some kind of lame or pointless question. But me being the shy and awkward person I am I would rather say hey or mention something we have in common or ask about something on his profile.

I have had a couple conversations with guys and they’ve never gone anywhere.
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong and at the moment I’m lonely

Most women in my experience are amazingly terrible conversationalists. My favorite was how women would say hello to me on a dating app:

Yeah. That’s sooooo interesting. It definitely intrigued me when I see how much effort they put into saying hello.

Me: Hey, how’s your night going? How was your week?

Her: Good.

What the fuck am I supposed to do with that? “Good.” Can you at least ask me how I am or, I don’t know, act interested and ask a question?

First, don't be depressed or disheartened if you don't receive replies. That's common and no reflection on you. I've sent messages and received no response. I've received messages, replied and got no response. Like you, we exchanged several messages and one of us lost interest.

Most dating websites have a "Like" button. Do some "Likes" and see if you get any responses.


In a message, comment on his photo. Say "I was beginning to think there's no hot looking guys here then I saw your photo. WOW"


Or "Your photo and profile was the only one that impressed me. Read mine, tell me what you think."


Those were some messages I received that I remember.

I talked to a woman online that asked me the very same question. I wasn't sure what to say, but I wanted to help. I told her about a movie I watched the night before. Let's face it, if you're looking for a guy with good intentions, then stay off the Internet. She most certainly was not looking for good intentions.

The guys came out of the woodwork. There weren't enough days in the week.
