Cuz he was really looking forward to being with you and you just straight up told him “let’s do this some other time”. How would you expect him to react? Put the shoe on the other foot. You made plans to go and have a nice evening with him. You spent hours getting ready. Then he tells you “sorry I just worked too much today. Maybe tomorrow?” How would that make you feel? Not saying your a bad person for canceling plans, but you gotta give the guy something. Did you say you’d make it up to him? That would at least give him reassurance that you were thinking about his feelings
Because he wants it his way and his way only. So he didn't get that so now he plays the 5 year old game of acting like it didn't bother him and he's going to act as if it's no problem and he has place to go people to meet

He really wanted to spend time with you. You should feel happy he craves your company.
He was disappointed. He obviously wanted to see you. Word of advise from someone who has worked two jobs. Don’t forget your partner and make time for them.
Simple - He was expecting to be with YOU, not to get turned away.
That said, he's no gem in this situation, since he is showing little/no concern for YOUR well-being as well as his own.
