How many attempts do you give someone to answer a direct question?

Yes, not responding directly can be a game but there are lots of reasons why someone may not be sleeping or cal comfortable answering directly first thing. I can’t not take rust into consideration so even if I’m getting weird impression I don’t follow instinct immediately.

It is kind of tedious bc obviously disingenuous people will waste my good will but i prefer to be patient with the well meaning, rather than swift with the Ill intentioned.

I think I tend to give about 3 chances overall. After that I figure it’s a game or they just don’t want to answer and I should leave them be.

Lol now, obviously if someone said I don’t want to answer or walked away I’d never repeat the question— I’m talking about grey areas where they respond but don’t answer or ask a question to a question or are unnecessarily confusing etc

0 I ask 1 tine that’s it. I don’t care about the reasons. You get one chance to answer direct questions.

I give one more chance. Maybe they were confused or uncertain but one do over is enough.

I give two chances. I will ask the same question 3 times. No more. I may reword the question in case they really were caught off guard.

I will ask a question up to ten times.

I will ask the same question unlimited times until I get my answer.

I don't count how many times but it's getting lower and lower. So many people have issue with staying on topic when asked a question.

Many times it's let's talk about "X" and what your thoughts are specifically to "X"

Then someone thinks they're smart with well what about "Y"? Whataboutisms annoy the crap out of me. Thanks for bringing up this question. Next time this happens to me I am going to try harder not to engage in conversation with people that don't respect to stay on topic before moving to another.

I hear you. Thing is I get annoyed immediately so my being or trying to be patient is an effort to compensate for a impulse reaction which center be fair given I never know for sure why someone might be evasive, however, it’s usually just bc they are wasting time. But sometimes someone might have some issues surrounding the topic or communicate so differently that they really didn’t understand or were caught off guard etc I know for myself , people do confuse me bc there’s often a lot of assumptions going into what may look like a direct question, and if I don’t answer direct it’s not bc I’m trying to play games, so I try to treat others as I’d want to be treated tho yeah must often not deserved 😂 but I good out for the ones who just really warrant the patience 😊

I usually ask once and if the answer is a deflection I will politely call it out and ask a second and final time.

I don't know what type of questions you were talking about. But if im right then I guess ill give an example.
Someone: We should hang out
you: Im down! What do you want to do and what times would you be availbale?
Them: I don't know (to both)
Thats really annoying, but I would probably ask one more time later
You: You mentioned hanging out earlier, what about coffee?
Them: Sounds fun!
You: what times would you be available? (gives your own times)
Them: I don't know

Its really annoying when people are unclear or dont follow up on plans they make. After two chances its over

If I give someone advice they ask for, and they don't try it, I will not give them any more advice. One reason I broke up with my ex-fiancé is because he couldn't listen.

We went over solutions three or four times and he still didn't try any thing. He just kept doing what he'd been doing and tried nothing.

I don't have time for people who won't help themselves.

At work, for things like depositions or questioning witnesses, I give 3 chances. I usually reword it at least once. Something like, “Maybe you didn’t understand the question. I was asking…”

ask once, then rephrase and ask again, but make sure both times that the question is DIRECT - not ambiguous, involving double negatives, conditional situations, etc.
after that, it's up to how much you care to put up with.

Yeah same id give them about 3 chances. And In person it's obviously different vs when talking to them virtually. If I'm person I can see their attitude is angry I'd only give them one chance.

There is no set number because every situation is different. There are dozens factors such as their age, if the answer important, if there are other sources or people for the answer, etc.

Im a one time type of person. If they deflect a direct question its usually because theyre uncomfortable, dont want to tell the truth, or dont want to discuss the topic.
