Would you ever google a potential partner (someone you were going to date) to make sure this person wasn't what he or she said they were? Or a potential scammer, married, etc?

Would you eventually tell the person that you did? If so, when would you tell them?

Yes I think that´s legit and not a bad thing hence there are many scammers that are not really looking for a relationship and there many dating pages where fakes are on so I think that checking back is important in our days.
Would I tell them that I do? No, I also take for granted that any girl I date or am in contact with in terms of dating also checks back on me.

You´re welcome. I´m glad my answer helped you. I personally had financial bad experiences with dating because I naively believed that I found love while actually messaged with a female scammer.
I think the problem is getting worse because many dating apps use them to get people on their page.

I'm sorry that you had that experience. People need to be so careful now. I was afraid the person who gave me his number later during our messages on the site, was a scammer. I didn't know if he gave me his own phone--ir if an imposter took over his profile to try and get me to give him information and possibly scam me. So, what i did was google his photo on the dating site. (GOOGLE This) , and his photo showed up on a website which listed him as a professor at a university where I am. Now, that's all nice but I still had my doubts because he was vague with his work (on the phone). So I looked into more of his school profile and saw he had a youtube channel as well. It was a hobby channel he has and in one comment he made with his viewers, he used an utterenance to show disgust that he used with me a lot in his messages. It was only then that I knew this was him.

Amy, when I was dating, I always checked out info about my date before the first date, using google, LinkedIn, etc. It wasn't always to see if they were legitimate, it also provided some info that was useful in a first conversation. For example, if I found her hometown, I might say something like "I hear you're from..." as a conversation starter.

Would she say, "How did you know that?" Haha. Did you ever tell her you did? The things I have found out--you wouldn't believe. All good things though. My problem is--should I tell him I did--it seems like it is an invasion of privacy but at the same time--I had my doubts because of certain things.

Amy, in today's world, just about everyone expects to be "investigated" and some of the women I dated (after my divorce) asked me if I looked them up and one was disappointed when I said No. "Privacy" is rapidly becoming a thing of the past... between social media, google search and cameras everywhere, can we really be totally private anymore?

That is very true, Tom. I have a feeling he kind of expected me to do the same. It would be taking a risk with the world the way it is today, and all the scammers present on these sites. I wonder if he has done the same for me? PS--he retired from teaching but is doing something else now.

They aren't being shady... just not giving out a lot of info. Why would anyone not tell me they were a former professor and now an author? We are about to meet so I did a check on him.

Then you're at fault. My parents are rich so I rarely talk about them. If anyone did a background check on my family out of curiosity I'd dump her instantly.

I wouldn't talk about being wealthy either. That's not my concern. What they do for a living should come up up in the early conversations, not what they have in the bank.
