Is it nice being put to sleep for surgery?

Well, I can safely say it's better than feeling everything as they cut into you, so there's that. But beyond the immediate... it's not quite like falling asleep; you don't get tired, just woozy (at least that's what the stuff they gave to me did). You feel like sleeping, but not like you need to sleep. Then you just drift off. I think there's more difference between "coming to" and "waking up" then going to sleep and being put under.

I just had surgery a week ago. You get knocked out QUICKLY! It's not like going to sleep at home. It's like time traveling 6-12 hours in the future. You don't remember a thing and don't just "drift off" through different stages of sleep like you do at night. You're just out like a light.

I have only had one minor surgical procedure but I have undergone general anesthesia for a few screening colonoscopies. It was a VERY restful sleep and it's easy to see how people could get addicted.

I underwent general anesthesia for a colonoscopy. I was babbling on about learning Japanese to the anesthesiologist. He nodded appreciatively with a look on his face like, "This conversation ends in three... two... one..."

And then I woke up! It seemed like I was under for only two seconds! I awoke as they were wheeling me back to recovery! I felt jipped because I *needed* the sleep! I almost wanted them to put me back under!

It was nowhere near long enough! 😉

@Bluemax Next time you have a colonoscopy, tell the doc this joke before the procedure starts:

A guy goes in for a colonoscopy and he's up on the table, prepped, ready to go. The doctor walks in, looks down at the man's butt, and says, "Excuse me, sir, but do you know you have a piece of lettuce hanging out of your butt?"

he man replies, "Oh, yeah. . . and that's just the tip of the iceberg!"

About two years ago, my friend's daughter (32 years old) attended our New Year's Eve party. Don't ask me why a young woman like her was at a New Year Eve party with a bunch of old farts like us.

I noted we all stood around recapping the year, and for us old farts we recapped DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENTS!

I turned to my friend's daughter and said, "See what you have to look forward to? When I was your age I talked about adventures and trips I had taken over the year! Now we're talking about prescription drugs and medical procedures we've had done!"

I would NOT classify being put to sleep for surgery as "nice". A better word to describe it is quick.
