I come from a mixed race situation (NA & Caucasian), I understand where you come from. The white folk in my area see me either as a "dirty indian" or "w*tback" (I get mistaken for Hispanic) and the natives see me as an "apple"... I am a woman without a country.

My native mother has wanted me to get with my best friend (who is native) and have his babies just to straighten out the bloodlines.

White folks generally don't know their heritage and have little interest in preserving it. For those of us who's ancestors have fought and suffered to try to preserve even bits and pieces of our cultures, it's far more important. And when you come from a strong cultural identity, when you are mixed race, it can be hard to know who you are because you're both AND neither.

No, we aren't. Just because everyone who's not black looks white to you doesn't mean we are. We have totally different genetic backgrounds and totally different cultures. Genetically we are more closely related to Asians. Additionally, we look nothing alike, hell, even tribe to tribe we look different.
