Guys, Why did he say “hope to see you again” after first date then kind of ghosted?

This guy I went on a first date with said that to me, hugged me and even kissed me (we kissed before leaving too). Then he checked I got home safe, then I said something and he didn’t reply. Then I said 2 days later that I’ve had fun and hope he’s gonna have a great week ahead (Monday). He replied Tuesday. We haven’t talked much just 2-3 lines each. I assumed this is dead as it’s been 5 days of no contact. Yesterday he just messaged to ask how I am. I know he’s been busy but how can you ignore 5 days? Before the date we were really talking and joking around then he went dry… why text me again? Is it even worth replying?

He didn't wanna shatter your feelings face to face so he fed you lies to spare your feelings in that moment. Some people don't have it in them to be honest like that
