This is like if you opened a restaurant and nobody ever came in to eat & then you say, "why customers don't come to my restaurant? what are they expecting?" I guess you should pay attention to what's different between you & the women they do approach. But also keep in mind there's different types of women who get attention and not all attention is high quality attention... just getting sex from a guy is nothing to brag about.

Fear of rejection is one of the top fears people have. We are social animals who need others so rejection can hit us to our core. The thought of approaching a man seems a bit scary to me.

Guys are as nervous as girls are. They're afraid of rejection just like you're afraid of rejection. That's a lot of the reason that guys don't approach girls. You may be old-fashioned but you know what, the guy that you're interested in that doesn't approach you, may actually really enjoy you starting the conversation

Whoa.. nice insult. You decided to put "old-fashioned" in your post so I talked about that. Old-fashioned doesn't mean women approaching the guy. And, no, when women approached me it never hurt my feelings, FYI. However it also didn't help their chances since as an old-fashioned guy whether she approaches me or not doesn't factor into her chances at all. You sound pretty angry... almost like you are desperate for women to approach you or you were always unable to approach women. I went through a shy period when I was young but I'm not that guy now. When I did that it was usually because I thought the girl was too good for me. Learned later in life to not give a fuck if they said no and try someone else.

My friend had what he called the machine gun approach. He’d try to talk to every girl that walked by until he eventually hit one that was interested.
