You could just be honest and say you want to get to know him more before going there. It's good to be transparent in moments like this, and can only create issues if you play along while not meaning it.

If he respects how you feel, he'll hold off and you two can continue getting to know each other. But just know that it'll probably be on you to say (or give a sign) that you're ready to go there. He probably wouldn't ask again, to avoid coming off as desperate.

Everybody has their own rules of thumb for when to move forward. Some people need two dates, some three, but the deciding moment is usually by the fourth date. I'm not sure what yours may be, but the best thing you could do is be honest and tell him where you're at and how you're feeling about him as things get better!
