Why would an ex say they’re not dating anyone new when they are?

We’re still on good terms and he wanted to keep it friendly and makes the effort to get in touch and wants to catch up in person soon, but why lie about seeing someone else? Surely you can both just move on and become just friends. A part of remaining genuine friends is accepting that you’ll both date other people.

Yeah I know what you’re saying. I’m already getting to know other guys. I think he thinks I’ll hang around for him, I’m not really sure why, probably because he knew how much I liked him when we were together, but feelings change based on how someone else treats you.

Because either they're not seeing someone and you're misinformed. Or they are and feel that you just don't need to know. Sometimes it's just easier to lie to some people then explain the truth.
