What are people's expectations on sites such as Tagged Meetup or Plenty of Fish? What other meeting apps are there and what are they for?

I was chatting with my roommate and she was telling me about these sites or apps that she's gone on to chat with guys such as meetup tagged and plenty of fish. At first I wasn't sure what she was looking for so I listened and I laughed at some of the messages she got and I shut my eyes @ some of the pictures she received oh boy! 😳🙈 Which to those she thankfully chewed them out! 😠

and finally I asked her "why are people on these apps? what are you hoping to gain?" in actuality I wanted to ask are you looking for a hookup or a date? not that I thought my friend was looking for a hookup but more because the responses she was getting from the guys. They seemed more interested in looking for a hookup... Anyhow her response was "I don't know just looking to talk... Get comfortable enough to meet with someone... Hopefully nice"...

I responded "yeah but is it me or do most of them just want hookups?"

To which she shrugged and said "well how else do we do this how else do we meet up with people?"

Sadly I can't say. Dating or getting to know someone now a days seems to have become so complicated.

So what are these site for? What other apps or sites are there? And what are they for?

I get eHarmony and match. com that's obvious they're looking for marriages but is it okay to look on eHarmony and you're not looking for marriages or romantic or a hookup?

I have previously used match. com, POF, Zoosk, Bumble, and a few others over the past 15 years. I can't speak for other people, but when I used those sites, I was looking for a person to be my long term partner in a committed, monogamous relationship.

Sadly dating in this day and age almost seems impossible to date without dating apps. I know some people say they meet people at work or through friends and co-workers but I honestly can't see how this is possible. I live in a very rural area where there just isn't much of a dating pool once people are in their 30s older. It seems like most people in these rural areas met their spouse in highschool, church or college.

A guy I knew who worked for OK Cupid told me most people on those sites have no intention of ever meeting anyone. They are just there for a laugh.

I never seek platonic friends from a dating / hook up site or app, it just seems off to me.


I had some success through okcupid, tinder and hinge but never through POF. I just never had any luck to be honest. I try to understand the person and try to gauge what they’re looking for. If it’s simple casual then I entertain it if I want to or If it’s long term then I consider them as a potential or not

Meetup is an app that helps people find others with mutual interests for social occasions and adventures. It’s not a dating app, but people do make love connections using it. Plenty of Fish is a low-rent dating app. I’ve never previously heard of Tagged.

they are "meant" for "finding love and company" but they are used for finding sexual partners by desparate people who have given up on finding something that is actually meaningfull to at least get their sexual urges satisfied.

as for the question listed as number 3. these days the way what looks to ve the majority of people, to look for a hook up, you look in any direction seeing as it seems the majority only want hookups anymore. to further explain that, you look on any social media site/app (sorry but even when not meant to be a "dating app" if it has you inteteracting with others it turns into a pseudo "dating app") . you look anytime you are interacting with others.

All of these apps can be effective to one degree or another; some are better than others. IMHO, the key is to know what you want and communicate clearly and stay focused on your goal. It's like hunting for a job!

Take it seriously, work diligently, and you WILL find what you seek!
