Has anyone you dated scared to tell their parents about you because of your race?

Me being an upper middle class white girl, my dad went to Marquette, and I work for a national television show... is facing POSSIBLE racism. This dude is afraid to tell his Indian parents about me and I feel really, really sick. Any thoughts? I've tried to leave him a couple times but like has anyone else gone through this?

In India, the Parents pick the bride and there is dowry associated with it. Those same pressures, although lessened, are evident within the social USA India caste system. These customs and traditions affect his Family standing in Business and Community. His parents will not approve.

No. This is their cultural traditions more than anything else. Their society is Top heavy and they are a Caste System. You need to study that construct as it and Hinduism is the fundamental starting points to understand India. Everyone is different and your viewpoint is uniquely American.

I’m white, mostly. But my family is quite diverse. Going back over 100 years (native American and white spouse), there’s been a mixed couple in my family’s past, including lots of cousins and nieces and nephews. All three of my wives were dark (black, Latina, Native American mix).

so we’ve got a history of it, no one bats an eye.

That's not the case at all and i'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. An indian parent's unwillingness to allow their child to marry a white person comes from cultural differences

There was a question mark. And yes, it is racism/classism/prejudice, I actually know a couple of examples of politicians and famous people who married Indians. J. D. Vance, Nick Jonas, my neighbors. But alas, its prejudice.

He is no doubt nervous because his family probably wants to follow the tradition of arranging a marriage for him with another Indian family. How he decides to move forward will tell you a lot about how important you are to him.

I am half indian but i dont live in India, most urban population in indian has become modern and parents do allow children to marry outside their caste or religion, if he truly loves he would have stood up against his parents for you else he would have told you that he can't marry you and asked you to move on in your life but right now he is kind of playing with your emotions
