Should I send him a message for when he gets back?

A guy I’ve been talking to/gone out with a few times is gone overseas for a week and doesn’t have international service so we can’t talk. He told me he missed me before he left and wants to hang when he gets back.

I’m not sure if I should send him a message before he gets back so he has something to see when he does, or if that’s too cringy/would weird him out? I was thinking to say something like “I hope you’re having a good time - I miss you and talking o you and am excited to see you soon”. Is that too much haha?
