Why do guys say “this isn’t what you want.” when you’re in a relationship with them?

Need more context but to me it sounds like they know you deserve better but don’t want to provide better? Maybe

There isn’t much context surrounding it. It’ll be like there’s a minor disagreement that gets blown out of proportion and they will immediately start saying “this isn’t what you want.” When the disagreement had nothing to do with the status of the relationship and everything to do with whatever the discussion is about.

Yeah I’ll stick to my original opinion. Sounds like they are trying to dismiss your feelings towards something because they don’t want to provide what you exactly want
