Ex said she is afraid it wouldn't work between us again. What am I to make of the rest of the evening?

My ex [27, F] broke up with me [M,31] after 8 months ca 2 months ago. She than contacted me after a week and wanted to talk. So we did. We even exchanged some letters, where I apologized for the stuff I thought I could have done better and told her that I am working on being a better partner. And that I would like another chance with her if she thought she would like thet old-new me (she broke up with me, because I changed when under a lot of pressure at work).

So we started hanging out and texting/calling. I noticed some change in this dynamic at some point, but didn't mention it: she was very enthusiastic one day and then gradually became less invested. But we met before her vacation. She would hint before that I should remember I already have a girl (her) and then add that she actually didn't know. She would joke about what she hopes I can fix around the house if we were to live together.
I took that as a sign that she wants me to ask her to be my girlfriend again. When I asked before her leaving for a trip she told me we could speak about it when she returns. I told her to forget it, I know things need time. She wouldn't reach out from her trip and she was a bit distant after her return too. But she agreed to meet and then suggested also the time.

While in bed after our date, she felt she owed me the answer. I disagreed. But she said she was afraid it wouldn't work between us. So we talked about her concerns a little and I was quite understanding. I told her my view on things and why I like her as a person. She actually shed some tears and then she was all over me sayïng there was a course on relationships.

She knew she had some of her stuff at my place and she actually saw it there. But she didn't take it with her. When I dropped her off, I told her I am not sure if all this means she doesn't want to keep seeing me. She said she would like to do something together and that we will be in touch. She would text me a few messages and then became distant again.
