How to choose between loving and being loved?

I think the process of love between two people is about understanding each other. Marriage is the end of love. When the end is reached, loving and being loved are not as good as loving each other.

To me both are not possible. I cannot be "loved" and I have never been "loved" and because of this I do not know "love" and therefore I do not know how to "love" and will never know how to. It also doesn't help that I no longer have hope for or a belief that "love" is real.
