Why did my Co-Worker ask if I have a boyfriend?

I see him occasionally and we’ll say hi to one another whenever we see each other in the halls at the hospital. I notice him staring at me and he’s approached me a few times since I started working the job. Recently, I was walking a patient to the ER and it seemed like the guy was invested in our conversation and I noticed my co-worker looked back to observe the interaction.

As I’m leaving the ER I noticed my co-worker and he stops me. He mentions what do I get into after work and maybe I would know the spots in the area because of a guy that’s taking me out. I questioned him to ask where is this going and he mentioned he wanted to know if I had a boyfriend. I tell him “no” and he mentions well “that’s all he wanted to know”.

It was an awkward interaction and I decided to bring up the places that I go to which is church and we made a small talk until we went our separate ways.

Oh wow, you work in a hospital and that can be sporadic type of work. I used to live in a part of USA where the Big Hospital was 1 City block from gun shots in the day time. That was a bust Emergency Room ;-) And, I lived half block from it...

Well, if he is inquiring whether you have a boyfriend he is at least respectful, understands protocol, and what is right/wrong in Relationships. That's a BIG deal these days !! He is feeling you out and I prefer cautious, check her out, and mean it when you ask kind of person. He's going to ask you out. If you said church to me then I would have sealed this thing right then. Church means no sex which is good... he's processing everything !! He is definitely not sleeping well with you in and out of his head.
