My boss is in his late 50s. He's divorced and has a girlfriend. He announces he's going to hangout with her in front of me. I am 27. I was recently hired by him for a administrative assistant position. This week is my third week working at the company.
He was about to leave for the day and he came up to me and said, "Can I ask you a somewhat inappropriate question?"
I was hesitant but I said sure. Then he asked if I have a boyfriend. I told him I'm single. He said "is that normal for you?" And I didn't know what he meant by that. I thought he meant is it normal to be single so I said yeah. Then he said, "Really?" Like he couldn't believe it.
And I said, "Wait what?" And he said, "I just think all the boys are probably chasing after you trying to date you constantly. I bet you always have a boy to date." And I was like really flustered and I felt really uncomfortable I didn't know what to say to him.
So this is where I put my foot in my mouth, "You think I'm attractive or something?" I wasn't looking for validation or trying to flirt with him I just basically said the wrong thing. And he said, "Um well... Uh... Yeah..." And I said, "Oh... Well... Thank you." And he said, "I wanted to know if you were dating anyone." And I said no I'm single
And he said ok and he apologized profusely and he said he hoped he didn't make me uncomfortable which he did but I just wanted the conversation to be over so I said "no I'm shy." I just wanted him to leave me alone.
Then he comes back like ten minutes later and brings up the conversation again doubt checking that I wasn't uncomfortable and he's sorry. I said to him that I'm confused I don't know what we even talked about.

And he said he wanted to know if I have a boyfriend, when we have a work party he wants to meet him and also he wanted to know if I am juggling work and a relationship fine but I'm single so I don't have to worry about it. And I said, "Oh ok. I understand now." And he apologized again and he complimented me he said he likes my top that I look good in that color and then he left.
