Anything in the form of “are you single/do you have a girlfriend/wife?”. And assuming its a girl you dont know well.

+1 yIt could be, but not necessarily, no.
Key here is context - what's the setting? Workplace, bar, supermarket? Who is this woman - a coworker, a random stranger, a cashier? Depending on those and other factors, she might be "testing the waters" so to say, or just making small talk. Third possibility, like someone else here has already said, they might be see if they can fix you up for a friend of theirs.
In my life, both work and private business, I do stumble into women who ask about my marital status - usually just as a way to frame me better and understand who they are doing business with. It's kind of peculiar because men don't really pop this question as often as women do.

Asker+1 yI can give some context and what happened the next day after she asked me the girlfriend question.
I was eating lunch during work break. She came into the room and sat down on the chair. She notices that i get nervous around her (i have a crush on her).
Conversation:
Her : “(my name), why do you get so nervous?(She has asked me that same question a few weeks ago)
Me : “I dont know”
Her : “you don’t know? Do you feel nervous around girls? Have you never talked to one? Dont you have a girlfriend?”
Me : “No”
Then the next day our company went to the club and she told me to come with her outside. It was me, her, and her girl friend. Me and the girl i like were talking normally and a bit later she pulled my arm and pulled me towards her and the wall behind us. We were really close physically, our waists were almost touching. Then she put her hand on my abdomen and just looked at me and stopped talking.
I got really nervous and leaned away, she noticed that and put her hand again on my abdomen and closed the gap. She just looked at me while i was looking at the ground. All of this happened while her girl friend was standing behind her. When she noticed what was happening she walked a bit away. Then someone else came and the girl who touched me backed off.

Well I asked my crush recently if he’s seeing someone … I brought it up in a convo where we were talking about relationships. And we were walking home from work together. But my main reason for asking is because I like him. But there is obviously other reasons to ask. But I’d say it’s the main one.

+1 yNot necesarily. I've asked guy that who I'm not interested in. It can be just a generic question.
If you're single, tell her you are, then see how she responds after she knows. The question itself doesn't determine her interest, but how she behaves and responds after your answer will.

Asker+1 yI don't know if this counts as her responding to that question but i will write what i wrote to someone else:
Our circle was at the club and she took me outside with her girl friend. Me and her were talking about normal stuff.
What happened then is that the girl who asked me if i have a girlfriend grabbed my arm and pulled me towards her so that we were very close to each other, about an inch or two of space. She then put her hand on my tummy.
When she did that i got really nervous and leaned away so her hand didn't touch me anymore. She noticed the gap and put her hand back on my tummy. While all of this happened she wasn't talking and just looked at me.

So some people lie so let’s not do it? You could say some people do “whatever” for any issue just so you do t have to engage in anything in life …so I suggest always say it

The fact if they are married or single?
16.5K opinions shared on Dating topic. Usually, yes. Or maybe she wants to hook a friend or relative of hers up with you.
10 ReplyNot necessarily. She might just be curious/nosy. Some women also love to fish around to find out if you are a virgin for some reason, and asking of you are single is one way to get to that info. Some girls just ask to screw with you 🤷♂️ But in most cases, it probably indicatea interest or that she has a friend she'd like to introduce you to

Asker+1 yWhy does she want to know if I’ma virgin?
Sometimes but not necessarily, the main three reasons off the top of my head would be, first, she is interested, second, she is thinking about trying to fix you up with a friend, third, she is just making smalltalk or wondering about a social situation (for example a double date or if you would have a plus one at a party).
10 Reply2.3K opinions shared on Dating topic. Maybe but it doesn't matter. You're better off having standards for the kind of woman you want (that go beyond looks) and rejecting ALL women who don't meet that standard, regardless of whether they beg you for attention or ask random questions or whatever. Check out some of my mytakes.

+1 yI’ve had elderly woman ask me if I’m single. They can’t imagine a woman who rides motorcycles as in a solid relationship with a family. lmao So, no. (And yes I know this isn’t what you mean, just couldn’t resist sharing and teasing)

She might be. Just ask the woman.
Asker+1 yAsk her what?

+1 yNot necessarily be very careful w/ this. A lot of times women are saying that not to get info for themselves ɓut too get info for others. Word of advice never answer a question like that. If at all appropriate answer back with something like "why, are you asking me out? lol"
00 Reply Depends on context
And they may be intrested or want to contact to someone else
As a responce I think can ask for there status and with there answer possible get a better idea08 Reply

Asker+1 yI can shorten up what i wrote about the touching part.

Asker+1 yShe didn’t really force anything, she just touched me. And regarding your first reply, my question would be why she touched me and if that was a sign that she likes me.

+1 yI can easily drop the “are you single/do you have a girlfriend/wife?” question into a conversation despite being completely disinterested on the guy (or guys) I'm talking to. But, that's me. I can't speak on behalf of the other women.

+1 yYeah, I can see why so many guys can see it that way, but I’ve asked guys that because I thought he would be perfect for a friend of mine, so be careful you not just assume that it’s she who is interested. You really should ask her.
00 Reply she could he interested or just curious about your love life and if you don’t know her well then that just means she might want to explore her options either to hook up or be friends with you.

Sometimes, but I wouldn't assume anything from that. I've had a number of situations when women ask me stuff like that as a social thing. They weren't romantically interested in me at all.
00 ReplyIn general, at a younger age, yes. At my age, I'm not sure it's interested as much as it is curious.

Asker+1 yWhat would make a girl curious about me if she doesn't even know me?
- +1 y
That you are a man, and women are attracted to men just for being men.
Asker+1 yI mean, there has to be something she liked about me or no? If she is interested that is
- +1 y
I see it the other way around: being liked is the default.
If someone is not liked it means they are doing something else for not being liked.
Asker+1 yYes but being killed isn’t always the same as having feelings for someone right? You cash like someone platonically
