Asking someone out who lives a 3 hour drive away. Thoughts on the distance?

Hey so there is a girl I'm interested in. We've talked on and off with for a while, but I never ended up asking out. (Been a crazy year and didn't have time to date)

We've been a bit more out of touch the past few months (I went over seas and didn't have a phone plan that worked) so we haven't talked much at all in those months. But life for me has cleared up this year, and I was thinking about reaching out to her and seeing if she's still single/interested, then finally asking her out.

Anyone have any dating advice for a first date with the distance? In the past asking someone out I just text a girl a few messages then ask her to meet for coffee in one short texting conversation. Then I would normally talk to face to face, and plan future dates in person. Any longish distance relationships I've had started close.

She lives a 3 hour drive away so it's not terrible, and maybe I'm just overthinking things, but I don't know a first date at that distance feels like it needs a bit more planning then just saying "hey I enjoy talking to you want to grab coffee".

So I'm looking for any first date ideas/ ways to reach back out to her.
