Is 3 Hours A Long Drive To You?

I currently live in Texas... but I grew up in a small town up north. Where I was from, I could walk/bike to school, walk/bike to the store, walk/bike downtown... and a long drive for me in my old town was considered 15 minutes -_-!

I live in Texas now. I live in Fort Worth. When I have to drive to Dallas... it's usually a 40 minute trip to 1 hour depending on traffic.

My friends got mad at me recently... because they wanted me to go to Austin with them, which is a 3 hour drive! In my opinion, 3 hours is a long drive.

I also know a girl who travels 3 hours daily just to see her boyfriend... and people around here keep telling me that a 3 or 4 hour drive isn't that long.

Do you guys think that a 3 hour drive is a long trip?

To me, '3 hours' drive is a stone's throw to Drive compared to having to take a plane half way around the world to see someone you love.
I have a husband who is out in Egypt and on and off I have had to hop on board and fly out to Cairo to be with him. However, with traveling and the Middle East right now being as bad as it has been getting, I haven't set foot over there for quite some time now.
I do have parents who live 4 hours from me and I go to see them whenever I get the chance. The trip is not bad, except when getting held up in heavy traffic or even Construction, then it makes it 'Long' and Laborious drive.
They say if you love someone you will travel heaven and earth just to be with them. And the girl you know who is doing this Lovingly for her man is someone who should be Commended Not Compared to Being everyone is different in driving for whatever they feel is most important to them, even if it Means-------Driving to the ends of the earth for it. xx

I consider that a long drive (I HATE being a car for anything longer than an hour maximum), but where I'm going and how long I'm going to be there is, to me, what determines whether the drive is worth it.

For example, going on a weekend vacation somewhere? Worth it.
Coming back the same day? Soooo not worth it.
Coming back the next day? Meh. Maybe, depends on whether I truly want to go to wherever the destination is or if I really don't care if I go or not.

Exactly! I know a lot of people in my area who travel 3 hours to have fun and then come back the same day -_-. If it's a weekend trip... I'll drive it.

But... most of my friends just go down there to drink and enjoy the bar scene. I can just do that in Dallas on a 40 minute trip -_-.

Yeah, I don't like being in cars long. I'm not going to drive to a place a few hours away just to come back the same day. I have to be at my destination long enough for it be worth making such a drive.

Plus, as you stated, there are some places I can go and have an equal amount of fun at that are a much shorter drive away.

No. I grew up 5 hrs away from my grandparents and we made the trip every other weekend my entire childhood. I drive the distance between Chicago and Sacramento twice a year. When I used to live a little over two hours from where I grew up it wasn't uncommon for me to drive there in the morning... hang out... then drive back that night.

For work... yes

For same day trip... depends on when you leave. If you leave early in the morning, spend the whole day there then come back later the same night, it can be worth it. If you leave later in the afternoon, not worth it. For me, I usually like to spend twice the amount of time at a place I spent driving to.

It is when every penny counts but, if it's every now and then it's that long I drove from Denver, CO to Austin, TX It wasn't that bad. 3 hours isn't that bad as long as the where ever your going is cool. Too me that sounds like a mini road trip those are the best especially with friends.

Try 26 hours straight through one driver from Texas to Miami ! That's a long drive by yourself! Anything after that is a long drive! Beautiful drive except at night! Regards

No. But 15 hours is and then catching a ferry and riding that for an hour and a half and then getting off and driving another hour is just to see you parents and go back to your hometown

Haha, I've only been there once. Aside from Victoria and Nanaimo I can't remember any place names. The ferry goes right to Nanaimo so that isn't it. West coast?

You can take a ferry to either two spots in Nanaimo or one in Victoria. I grew up in the middle of the island :) an hour from Nanaimo

Ah, beautiful country! Victoria is a city I could stand to see again. Much more so than Vancouver. I wanted to buy an authentic Nanaimo bar while I was there, but I was in a rush so I settled for a Snickers.

To me, 8 hours are more is too long if its for a trip... May as well take the plane. But for a long distance relationship, I'd consider anything over an hour too far lol

For a vacation, a 3 hour drive is fine - but for a relationship or friend I think it is too far to drive.

Not really, the longest drive was 11 hours for me and I thought it would be an adventure, it was hardly though. 3 hours is a breeze in comparison :)

I think it's long if it's for a one day event since then then that'll be 6 hours of driving
