Is 3 hours a day long to travel to get to work?

Our train lines are down, it usually takes 45 minutes on the train to get to work.

Now we have to get a bus which goes to all of the train stations. It takes 1.5 hours to work & 1.5 hours home.

This is the second week in and I'm becoming depressed that I don't want to go to my job.

I thankfully have been getting a seat both ways but I just don't want to go to work. I can't work from home.

Do you think this bus replacement time length is ridiculous?

Wife drives 2hr one way... it's brtween 3 and 4 hours every day. Yes, it's a long time.

But she rarely complains and been doing this for years. Make the most of the time. She listens to dave ramsey and so gets some ideas about improving finances. So how about you do the same. Study investing... listen to Warren Buffet videos and read what he reads, or Dave Ramsey... or learn something else.

That will ensure you become more wealthy and that's a good thing right?

45 mins would be on the cusp of impractical for me , with an 8 hour working day and responsibilities outside together with a relationship or social life that’s tough to juggle.


Your bus replacement service is obviously making travel very frustrating and with no option to work from home I’d be a more than a little put out.


The situation is bearable if temporary short term … otherwise 3 hours is unbearable and impractical.

So you travel 6 hours to work 8 hours? That almost cuts your income in half, not to mention the expenses of traveling so far. Foolish. Even more foolish that you can't calculate that yourself.

I understand how you feel until you get something else lined up just suck it up you’ll survive if it takes looking for another job then look for another one.

But it’s not good to quit jobs without being able to find a replacement as well as not giving notice.

I commuted to a job that took 2 hours each way to get from door to door every day for 15 years by train and walking. If you value the job and it advances your career, you have to be willing to do whatever you need to do or else settle for some lesser career.

I worked my previous job to exercise my brain and mind and emotions. I did not do it for money cause I could have made three times as much money editing essays full time, since I got 100% on over 40% of the papers I wrote in school.

My job before that was 2-2.5 hours a day, I lasted for about a month before I burned out.

Public transportation where I live is so slow I could ride my bike into the city faster. I always drive into work. When public transportation gets better maybe I will re think this

Yeah, that's roughly 300 miles. When I worked at Giant Eagle, we had a guy there that drive 4 hours every night to get there and 4 hours to get back home!

For some people the Bus is their only option, especially if they live in a rural areas.

Considering that it is stopping at all the train stations it makes sense. Perhaps you should look into a taxi, carpooling, or getting your own car.
