Yes! We took quite a few of them over the decades! We played a LOT of gigs in Erie, Edinboro, Youngstown, Cleveland, Oberheim, Columbus, Morgantown, and Roanoke!
In college, a classmate of mine said she was gonna drive out to Indianapolis to see her sick aunt and I asked her if I could just go for the ride. We just went out, spent about 6 hours there and left to come back so we could be here in time for class the next morning. The whole trip took 36 hours. Her name was Sunshine so, I decided to write a song about it called, "36 Hours Of Sunshine".
At least twice, a friend of mine decided to go west to her home town, Youngstown, and I asked if I could go along. Once we just went to hit a few record stores and another time, we went to visit a sick friend of hers. She showed me where she used to live and hang out with some of the guys that eventually became members of The Human Beinz.
The time we made the record store trip, I bought one of their harder to find albums.
I haven't been on a road trip in about 20 years!!
Sounds like fun times/good memories
Yeah, most often, it was!
I used to love it. When I was growing up, if we didn't already have other plans for a Saturday or Sunday, my dad would often say "Let's go for a drive."
My sister tended to get car sick on windy roads. And I think she often got bored. But I would sit on the edge of the back seat and lean forward on the back of the front seat between my parents to watch. I loved going on adventures and seeing new things. (This was before seat belt laws and digital devices to occupy kids. LOL)
Our family also took some long trips. The longest were a couple of trips from California across country to visit relatives in Wisconsin with lots of sight-seeing stops on the way, including national parks
It was my introduction to the world.
When I was older, my dad would sometimes take me on what seemed like long drives to do things.
He started teaching me how to drive when I was fairly young. I would sit right next to him and steer. Later, he would take me to large, empty parking lots and let me drive to get a feel for the controls. So, when I was old enough, I got my learner's permit to drive as soon as I was eligible. And I got my driver's license as soon as I turned 16.
After that, my friends and I drove all over California and beyond all the time.
I loved driving just for the sake of driving when I was younger.
I've rented cars and driven around Europe and have no problem adjusting to driving on the "wrong" side in Britain and Ireland.
During my career for 30 years, I drove for a living, going from place to place to inspect damage to motor vehicles. I went to and passed through some really interesting places.
By my 60s, though, I started to enjoy driving less and look forward more to the destination. Driving for hours can be boring and tedious. Maybe that is partially because most driving trips are on highways where there aren't a lot of unique sights.
Yes. I love driving. I used to take my brothers keys while he napped and took his car out for joy rides, Soon after he taught me how to. He said I can be a driver like him if I want to. Maybe my next career. But I have other fun things I like to as well after I retired.
driving is fun!
I really really really hate long drives - almost as much as flying. Hate it so much that I've takes the train from Denmark - Holland twice alone, so I could avoid the long drive. I do love train rides. 😅
I don’t think I’ve ever been on a train.. greyhound bus yeah, train no
Trains are AMAZING. Always had a thing for train rides for some odd reason - still remember my first time in a train, still get that childish joy when I ride trains. Metros give me stress tho - I don't like those. At all.

For the most part, I like long drives alone, or whenever I had a newborn I was trying to get to sleep. Would I take a long road trip with my wife and all my kids? No, hell no, absolutely not, I'd need to spray ether in the car first and wear a gas mask, sleepy time...
Taking a train has turned out to be the best solution there. Let other people suffer ;)
I often have done long drives; sometimes for therapy when I was in my 20s, but, since my 40s, often because of having to drive a long distance traveling between my home and job (like 21-27 hours and 1200 miles apart).
I find that listening to "Colours" by The Sisters of Mercy around 3 AM on a dark lonely stretch of Interstate highway (especially in winter) is like being in space.
Yikes lol I thought I had a long commute, but not as long as yours..
I didn't do that every day or even once a week.
I did it about 2-4 times a year, if that, and would stay home for a week at a time.
Often, I flew home, but driving was important in case I was shuttling cargo. On the road, I live in a motel and keep extra things in storage.
Right now, I have a slight problem. I am working from home now since JUL 2020 because of COVID-19. I thought I'd be home only for 2 weeks for my plethora of medical appointments. It ended up that I needed more appointments and, since I was capable of working from home, I just stayed at home. BUT, I still have stuff in storage back there 1200 miles away and haven't been back to get it! Both in storage and at my desk at work!
Guess you’ll have to make a road trip to get your stuff lol
I would like that.
Unfortunately, I am a contractor so there are no vacation days, no sick days, no nothing.
You work, you get paid; you don't work, you don't get paid.
Thus, for me to take time off, I have to first make sure it doesn't adversely affect the project too much and second, make sure I have enough money saved up to pay the bills both to travel AND to cover my loss of income from not working.
Until I started working from home because of COVID-19, when people ask me where I was going on my vacation, I'd say "Home." Of course, my wife would then want to go out and party in restaurants, but for the last 6 months, I've been eating microwave meals or eating out every single fucking day. I want a home-cooked meal even if I have to cook it. I lived that life for most of the past 17.5 years. About 3/4 of my life since DEC 2005, I've lived in motels or hotels.
I used to do a lot of it, but not so much these days. To me a long drive means at least 5000 miles. It takes a couple thousand miles just to get in the mood. It takes time to really chill - forget about work, forget about deadlines, forget about bills, forget about everything except here and now. You are on the road. Go where you want, when you want, as long as you want. It takes a while to reach a state of feeling completely free. Once you reach that point, everything changes. Your entire perspective on life and what's important changes.
Yes I do. But since my parents are getting older and well, I don't have friends really (that I can truly count on sadly), my opportunities for Road Trips haven't really been to fruition lol. Anyway, maybe I can do it on my own but my father is always concerned about my safety.
Yeah these days I wouldn’t take a far road trip alone
Yes, used to, a lot.
Then the British police, in their infinite wisdom (lack of, to be exact) decided to punish _me_ by banning me from driving for 18 MONTHS (not hoirs, not days!) after some local scum guy of theirs I was giving a lift to swerved my brand new car's steering wheel into a lamp post by the side of the road and crashed it.
I think he sipped drugs into my drink. They could not care less. And that's Thames Valley Police!
Yikes that’s not good
I could not/still cannot believe it. Had money go missing from what the police took for safekeeping, like it is Mexico or Nicaragua.
Have lodged a complaint, got notified it is being investigated, but that's all.
The fact they banned me from driving also voided the insurance, so, not only is the culprit happily free, me having to bear all costs, live without driving (even if it was for an emergency), but the whole thing might just go unpunished.
For me it depends. I like driving when there is no traffic. But traffic gives me anxiety. It's quite fun hustling my little mazda on the curves. Don't really like driving on highways or city streets. However, lately i have been walking a lot because walking is much healthier for you then driving.
Agree walking is very good for you… I hate freeway driving (especially in rush hour traffic)
I love when there's very life traffic and beautiful scenery. That's rare in my case these days. I don't live in places like that even for long drives to very distant parts. I might need to go to Arizona or something. I always romanticized the long drives there across desserts even though there are so many horror films about it.
a couple of friends and i will go for a day trip on out bikes to nowhere.
With one of them it was either left turn day or right turn day depending on what we did on our last ride.
No freeway, no maps.
With another friend he maps out all of the back roads to nowhere in particular and then back home.
Speaking of long drives. We took a drive to nowhere this past Sunday.
We drove for 10 hrs and we took nothing, but the back roads. No interstate HWY's
We went to Wonewoc, De Soto, Platteville, Westby, Hillsboro, Elroy, Sparta, Readstown, Mauston, Black River Falls, Pittsville, Babcock, Tomah and many other places
Sometimes you just gotta waste gasoline
Yes all these places are in Wisconsin
I occasionally take an hour or so drive to clear my head... and relax. I also don't mind taking 6 or 7-hour drives to visit friends and relatives; it's better than flying.
I’ve only ever flown once
Both. If the journey is the reason for the trip, then yes. If the destination is the reason, then no.
Great answer
Car rides no, I kind of hate these. Especially driving myseolf but letting someone else drive makes me feel bad so that. Trains dont work most of the time so the only viable option is travelbus rides which I do like yes.
Yes, especially when my wife gives me a Blowjob while I'm driving.
Was that you and her that time on the highway 😂😂
Possibly 3:)
Even crazier than seeing someone get a blue job while driving, me and my ex saw a lady leaning over her husband, of course my husband sped up, but instead of a blow Job she was plucking his nose hairs I shit you not 🤣🤣 think my husband was disappointed but I laughed my ass off🤣
Used to but not these days since the price of gas is expensive, also long drives makes me feel sick...
Switched the long drive to a long nap 😁
As long as you’re not napping behind the wheel 😁 and who you telling about the gas, man I swear I live at the gas station as much as I’m there filling up and still always seem to not have a lot of gas. Well not in the van anyways🤣
You're spending so much time at the gas station filling the tire of your ice cream mini van with air and for sure filling that spongy forehead with air too, HIGH PRESSURE sponge 💆🏼♀️😬
You forgot getting gas.. I drive far for my job so go through a lot of gas
Aren't there metros or trains? If you say driving in my country, i can understand it but in the U. S there are a lot of accomodations...
Is it cheaper sponge to drive than taking public transportations?
My job not on a bus line
Yes, if I'm actually going somewhere.
But I HATE people who just drive for the sake of driving. THEY are the problem! They are the reason our gas prices are so high!
They deserve to die.
Yikes calm down 😊🤣 lol I swear other then work have barely been driving anywhere 😁🤣
@Brainsbeforebeauty Okay; good. Then you are safe.
🤣 why gee… THANKS 😅
@Brainsbeforebeauty 😆 You're welcome! 😇
Yeah, I’ve been on one all week and driving back from Florida to New York and visited my dad and my brother who was in Georgia right now I’m in North Carolina
My grandma lives in North Carolina. Hope you had a great trip!
Yeah, I was in Florida all last week, North Carolina is nice also
Going to be stopping for dinner at Cracker Barrel soon
Depends on the destination and company. Half the fun is getting thier with the right person/people.
That can certainly be true
As long as I didn't have to do it as a living.
Oh yeah I certainly do like long drives. I have not been doing enough of them lately but with the weather warming up I'll be getting back into it.
Yeah great opportunity to read given I'm not a driver
Yah save the reading for the passenger or back seat lol
