One thing that worked for me is a girl changed her hair and the way she dressed. It caught my attention and I supposed I subconsciously started to reassess her.


Before she was just ‘that friend’ or ‘that one girl’.


Then, when I noticed her change in appearance, for a moment it was like, “Who’s this girl?” and even though I recognized a couple seconds later, it still made the gears in my head turn.


She sort of had an opportunity to re-do my first impression of her. I became interested in getting to know the ‘new’ version of her. I paid more attention to her and I liked what I saw.


It was like a sort of friend-zone reset.


Like, “You used to know me for XYZ, but look at me now. Get to know the new me.”


We ended up dating afterwards.

In the end, we didn’t last because our chemistry clashed as we got to know each other more. So we became acquaintances. But, she’s still the only person who was clearly friend-zoned at first and then got out of it.
